VETERAN’S SERVICE PROGRAM (VSP)

GBTU’s VSP has received multiple awards. These include TU National’s recognition as the top TU Veterans Program in the country in 2024. This led to our efforts being featured in TU National’s Annual Report/Reason for Giving in early 2025. The programs coordinators, Paul Kruse and Jim Hauer have received multiple awards from our chapter and WI State TU for their efforts.

In 2020 the GBTU VSP received a very generous Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR) grant. The Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) Grant lasted until September 2024. The funding was in the form of reimbursements (for dollars spent on the program). The chapter received thousands of dollars for our veterans events do to the generosity of the WI DNR and the success of the GBTU VSP.

We meet every other Monday to at the First Presbyterian Church in De Pere to learn fly-tying and to socialize. Multiple fishing trips are scheduled each year. Veteran’s and volunteers do not need to attend every meeting…only when you want to. All experience levels welcome. If you have never tied a fly, or been fly-fishing, this is a very good opportunity to see if it is something you would like. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer, please contact VSP Co-Chair(s), Paul Kruse: (920) 639-2361 / kruser500@gmail.com and/or Jim Hauer: jehauer1@icloud.com

The GBTU VSP program is free to veterans and volunteers.
